Kristoph kennels is owned by Christopher Seeyave
and is situated on a 78 acre citrus estate (orchard)
We are located just 5 minutes south of the Borough
of Arima and 10 minutes away from the Piarco International
Airport.
Our breeding goal is to consistantly produce the
REAL German Shepherd Dog as described in the WUSV
breed standard. A dog with the correct temperament,
so that he will posses the confidence, courage, calmness
and a strong fighting instinct to do any type of task
presented to him. He must also have the proper structure
(conformation) in order to carry out the task.
The dog with the best temperament is completely useless
if it doesn't have a good physical structure to carry
out its duties , similarly, the show winner with impeccable
structure but poor character has nothing to offer
the breed, no matter how many CC's and Best in Shows
won. We do not breed from ONLY "Working "
bloodlines or ONLY "Show" bloodlines but
a combination of both. This way we can have a balance
between the two extremes.
We got our first female GSD puppy in 1994, she had
an excellent temperament and pigment but later on
she got very cow hocked, which we were told was passed
on to her by her father, since he himself was cow hocked.
We bred her two years later to a very strong ,well
structured male with a nice temperament and on 4th
May, 1996 we had our first litter of five pups. From
this litter I kept a male which is still in my kennel
as he is now six years old today. I trained this dog
myself in obedience and he is also trained to do protection
work. This dog was entered in the obedience class
of a working trial in August 2001 and came 3rd out
of about 20 dogs.
Unfortunately, the sport of schutzhund is not practiced
here because Trinidad doesn't have the proper affiliation,
so even if we were to train for schutzhund we still
wouldn't be able to title our dogs. However, the proper
steps are currently being taken and we may soon be
able to title our dogs.
We have had a total of sixteen litters so far. All
the pups this female produced over the years had good
temperaments but only average structure. Two of these
pups were sold to security companies and one was sent
to Antigua to do narcotics detection training.
In October 2001 we had to put her to sleep because
she had breast cancer which spread to the spine and
it eventually collapsed onto the spinal chord preventing
any movement in the hindquarters.
I attended my first show (conformation) in 1995 and
was so interested in showing I bought a second female
a year later . At my first show in 1997, an all breed
championship show, I entered her in the puppy class
and she won best GSD puppy and eventually went on
to win Best Puppy in Show Reserve. I think having
such success the very first time I showed a dog is
one of the reasons that I'm still interested in this
wonderful breed. This female had excellent conformation
but was very sharp and would bark at the smallest
noise.
I spent a long time looking for good dogs from other
local breeders but no one produced what I was looking
for. I decided to search else where and after a lot
of research I eventually purchased two females from
Germany, Esther and Lena vom Hauswalder Bach, two
half-sisters and daughters of the 2000 German Sieger
VA1 Ursus von Batu and half-sisters of the 2001 Sieger
Yasko vom Farbenspiel. Ursus himself being the grandson
of two Siegers, Jeck vom Noricum and Zamb von der
Wienerau.
"The next big sire in Germany with great
genetic potential to raise the breed again, believe
me, will come only from Zamb Wienerau or from Jeck
Noricum (both sons of Odin Tannenmeise, who is a
son of Quando Arminius)only from these two
dogs, not from any other. Never. Never"
comment by the late Walter Martin
(Zwinger von der Wienerau)
Breeder of Quanto and Canto v.d. Wienerau-two pillars
of the modern bloodlines in Germany.
Currently, I am very pleased with these two females'
temperament and conformation. All I can do now is hope
they will be able to contribute positively to the development
of the breedhere in Trinidad.
